About Us
Overcomers
The Overcomers Initiative is more than a program—it’s a movement. Rooted in sustainability, community empowerment, and strategic growth, Overcomers is designed to endure well beyond its initial funding phase. At its core is a simple but powerful belief: those closest to the pain should be closest to the solution. That’s why Overcomers is anchored in peer leadership and cross-sector collaboration, ensuring it remains relevant, resilient, and deeply connected to the people it serves.

Our Story
At its core, the Overcomers Initiative is a declaration: that recovery is possible, that justice-involved individuals are more than their past, and that communities can be transformed when healing is prioritized over punishment. Born from lived experience and decades of frontline service, Overcomers is The Movement Foundation’s flagship response to the opioid crisis, mass incarceration, and generational trauma in Alabama and beyond.

This proposal outlines a bold, scalable model rooted in three pillars, Prevention, Intervention, and Sustainability. Through peer-led recovery groups, clinical support, family-centered therapy, workforce development, and reentry services, Overcomers is dedicated to meeting people where they are and walking with them toward where they’re meant to be. It’s a model that doesn’t just treat addiction—it restores dignity, rebuilds families, and reclaims futures.

DUAL- DIAGNOSIS TREATMENT
OVERCOMERS understands the importance that Dual-Diagnosis is the combination of a mental disorder and an alcohol or drug problem. This is quite common. About half of people with underlying mental health issues will also have an addiction problem, and vice versa. Although these problems often occur together, this does not mean one caused the other. In fact, most times it’s hard to figure out which came first. OVERCOMERS has licensed staff to address both mental health disorders and substance abuse through evaluations and assessments.
